Touching Hearts / Adopt-a-SoldierMinistry Leader: Marilyn Dear Contact Info: (p): (231) 947-1387 (e): mdear815@charter.net Touching Hearts Touching Hearts is a care ministry to college students and service men and women. Each month care boxes are packed with goodies and mailed to a list of college students and people serving in the military from our church family. Adopt-a-SoldierThe Adopt-a-Soldier program was started by the Touching Hearts ministry as a way to encourage and show appreciation to our military service people serving overseas at Christmas. A soldier and his platoon (an average of 35-44 soldiers) are “adopted” by the CLG family who buy gifts, food, games, etc., from a list approved by the military, enough for a gift package for each soldier. Items are then packaged and shipped to the platoon in time for Christmas. This has become a popular all-church project; the response has been so overwhelming that often there are so many goodies, the soldiers are able to share with others who may not receive anything for Christmas. Evan Cole, son of Shawn Burt and Don Cole, was inside this Humvee when it ran over an IED. Praise God for His divine protection. Evan received a personal visit from President Bush. |
